COVID-19 Response

Pilgrim Chicago Logo

Dear Pilgrim Community,
Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and compassion as we all adjust to our “new normal” and shift fully into e-learning this week. Recent events and the impact have been stressful, scary, uncertain for us all. The community aspect of Pilgrim has never been more important as we learn to remain socially connected while physically distant.

As we have yet to understand both the short-term and long-term ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic, Pilgrim is committed to providing support for our families. Through short-term challenges, like adjusting to working and learning from home, and longer-term impacts and
new financial situations, we want to stress that Pilgrim will continue to embody “Academic Excellence with a Heart.” The Board of Education and the staff met on Saturday, March 28 to discuss e-learning. The plan for the coming weeks includes real-time virtual connections and
options that allow for flexibility as to when parents may work with a child to get things done. These flexible options may or may not include technology. The emphasis for e-learning is on the continued student engagement in learning and connectedness.

Pilgrim is blessed with a phenomenal group of dedicated educators who have our children’s well-being at heart. Over the past week, they have spent countless hours working to adapt lessons to fit our new reality while finding ways to stay connected to our children, ensuring
that they can continue to support the whole child, even though we are physically separated.

It is with deep gratitude that we acknowledge the tireless efforts of Mr. Comella, Pastor Kristian Johnson, and the staff for their commitment to do what is best for our children. The Board of Education asks for parent feedback so that we can ensure we are meeting the needs of our children and families. If you have any feedback or need support, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Comella, Pastor Kristian, or any member of the Board of Education. We are collaborating with Pilgrim staff and will develop a brief survey to understand better how the first week went for you and your family. Your input is important and we value your collaboration and partnership.

Sincerely,
Dr. Bianka Hardin
School Board Chair
